Ac|tin [lat. actus = Tat, Tätigkeit, Bewegung; ↑ -in (3)], das; -s, -e; S: Aktin: haupts. im Muskelgewebe konzentriertes Protein, das in monomerer Form als globuläres Polypeptid (G-Actin aus 375 Aminosäuren, MG 42 000) u. in polymerisierter Form (als filamentöses oder fibrilläres A., F-Actin) auftritt. Bei der Muskelkontraktion bindet sich F-Actin an ↑ Myosin zum sog. Actomyosin-Komplex.

Aktin [zu griechisch aktís, aktĩnos »Strahl«, »Licht«] das, -s/-e, eines der vier fibrillären Muskelproteine. F-Actin ist kettenförmig aus kugeligen (globulären) Untereinheiten (G-Actin) aufgebaut und bildet mit den Proteinen Tropomyosin und Troponin die dünnen Muskelfilamente, denen eine wichtige Funktion bei der Muskelkontraktion zukommt.
